Scientists have designed solar-powered clothing that can dynamically adapt to shifts in the ambient temperature. An innovative approach to wearable tech, it provides a sustainable and responsive solution to the challenges posed by changing temperatures. It addresses challenges in extreme environments, such as polar regions and space travel.
The integrated device of Wang et al. opens many possibilities for developing actively controlled, self-powered, and wearable localized thermal-management systems and expanding human adaptation to harsh environments. Beyond clothing, such devices could be applied to vehicles and buildings.
It is possible to imagine a future of all-weather thermal management that is not limited by an energy supply and where extra collected energy might even power electronic devices under special conditions. X.H. was supported by National Natural Science Foundation of China grant 51877132.
