EV motors almost all run on the industrial, high-voltage, three-phase form of AC. It inverts DC charge to AC charge for driving the motor and then the opposite during regenerative braking.
In that sense, the inverter does a similar job to the minutely timed fuel injection and ignition systems in a combustion engine. The inverter needs to switch the electrical charge thousands of times per second, and energy can be lost during that process.
Inserting such a device in the right direction in the positive supply line can protect the load against reversal battery as well. Note that a MOSFET has always an intrinsic anti parallel body diode. The MOSFET is fully turned on when applying the battery in the right direction.
The working current of the cell is the most direct and effective parameter to characterize the consistency of its module. However, cell-level current is not monitored in commercial battery packs due to the limitations of current sensors.
